Client and context

The Royal Society of Chemistry is a globally respected scientific society dedicated to advancing the chemical sciences. With an ambition to engage wider audiences, modernise its digital estate and strengthen the visibility of its work, the Society partnered with Mobas to deliver strategic insight, clearer communication and enhanced digital experience.

Challenge

The Royal Society of Chemistry needed to:

  • improve accessibility and clarity across its digital channels
  • communicate complex scientific information in an approachable way
  • build stronger engagement with members, students and the wider community
  • present its work with consistency and a more modern visual identity.

Approach

Mobas conducted stakeholder sessions, content reviews and audience analysis to understand how different groups engaged with the Society’s content. We developed recommendations to simplify structure, strengthen messaging and improve the user journey. Creative exploration focused on clarity, credibility and approachability.

Solution

We delivered:

  • recommendations for clearer content hierarchy and communication
  • enhanced visual direction to support a modernised digital presence
  • guidance to improve navigation and user experience across key pages
  • a strategic framework supporting long-term digital improvement.

Impact

  • A more intuitive online experience for members and visitors.
  • Greater clarity and consistency across communication materials.
  • Strengthened engagement through clearer messaging and structure.
  • A roadmap for continued enhancement of digital platforms.

Why It Worked

The programme succeeded because Mobas brought together strategic understanding, audience insight and digital expertise. By focusing on user needs and communication clarity, we helped the Society strengthen its digital impact.

Claire SouthgateBrand and Communications Lead, Royal Society of Chemistry
“From the outset, Mobas brought energy and creativity to the brief, and surprised us with the creative concept – identifying the word ‘try’ in chemistry was truly innovative and something we had not recognised ourselves. It resonated with the audience insight driving the campaign, and the pre-launch testing gave us reassurance it would work with this new target audience.”
