AI has arrived in WordPress. Here’s why it matters.

The corner of a laptop screen with the website for WordPress.

WordPress 7.0 is more than another software update. It’s the beginning of a smarter, AI-enabled future for websites and the businesses that rely on them.

AI is no longer a glimpse of the future. It’s rapidly becoming part of the everyday tools businesses use to market, communicate and grow.

The latest release of WordPress 7.0 reflects that shift. Rather than treating AI as a bolt-on feature, the platform is laying the foundations for a smarter, more intelligent web ecosystem where automation, personalisation and efficiency are built into the websites of tomorrow.

For organisations already using WordPress, or considering a new website, the update is about far more than new functionality. It signals a change in how websites will be created, managed and optimised over the coming years.

Building the foundations for smarter websites

One of the most significant developments in WordPress 7.0 is not a flashy new feature, but the introduction of an AI framework that enables developers to build AI-powered functionality in a far more consistent and scalable way.

Rather than embedding a single AI tool into the core platform, WordPress has created the infrastructure that allows trusted AI services, including OpenAI, Anthropic and Google Gemini, to integrate far more seamlessly.

For businesses investing in WordPress website design and development, this means future AI capabilities are likely to become more reliable, easier to manage and better integrated across the entire WordPress ecosystem. Learn more about our website design and development services.

This marks an important shift. AI is no longer being treated as an experiment. It is becoming part of how modern websites will be developed moving forward.

AI is making content production more efficient

For many organisations, creating high quality content consistently remains one of the biggest marketing challenges.

AI is helping to reduce that burden by accelerating routine content production without replacing the expertise, creativity and strategic thinking that great content still requires.

• Drafting blog articles
• Creating SEO-friendly page titles and meta descriptions (see our SEO services).
• Generating image alt text to improve accessibility
• Summarising long-form content
• Suggesting new content ideas
• Writing product descriptions for eCommerce websites

Used well, AI becomes a productivity tool rather than a content replacement engine. The strongest results still come when experienced marketers, copywriters and subject experts shape, refine and validate every piece of content before publication.

Creating better digital experiences

AI is transforming far more than content creation. It is also changing how visitors experience websites.

Businesses are increasingly introducing intelligent features that make websites faster, more helpful and easier to navigate, including:

• Intelligent website search
• Personalised content recommendations
• AI-powered customer support
• Automated FAQs
• Multilingual assistance
• Accessibility improvements

These capabilities help visitors find the information they need more quickly while reducing repetitive enquiries and improving overall customer experience. Combined with robust analytics and continuous optimisation, they also provide organisations with valuable insight into user behaviour, helping improve engagement, lead generation and conversion over time. Supported by analytics and optimisation, businesses can continually improve performance.

Performance still matters

While AI naturally attracts the headlines, WordPress 7.0 also delivers significant improvements to performance, usability and the editing experience.

• Faster page editing
• Improved site management
• Better developer workflows
• Continued enhancements to Full Site Editing
• A smoother overall user experience

Together, these enhancements help businesses manage their websites more efficiently while delivering faster, more engaging experiences for their customers.

AI should support strategy, not replace it

The question isn’t whether every website should use AI.

The real question is where AI can create meaningful value.

The most successful organisations are using AI to automate repetitive tasks, improve efficiency and free their teams to focus on creativity, strategic thinking and building stronger customer relationships.

• Publish content more consistently
• Improve SEO performance
• Enhance customer engagement
• Save time on routine tasks
• Scale marketing activity more efficiently

Like any technology, its success depends on having the right strategy behind it.

Looking ahead

WordPress 7.0 signals the beginning of a new chapter for website development.

As AI continues to evolve, we can expect smarter plugins, increasingly personalised user experiences and more intelligent digital tools that help organisations operate more efficiently and compete more effectively.

The businesses that embrace these technologies thoughtfully, rather than simply adopting them because they’re new, will be best placed to create exceptional digital experiences and achieve sustainable growth.

As we approach World Cup year in 2026, the branding, ball and other assets have now been released so we are starting to get a feel for how it will look.

But, it’s not just the visuals of the branding and sponsors which shape how the tournament feels, but also the kits.

This time, as expected, the majority of kits will be Adidas or Nike manufactured, with a few others in the mix. But I want to spend some time focusing on Adidas.

They’ve made a subtle change to their template, which I expect to start seeing across all of their club kits too in the 26/27 season. It’s so subtle you may not notice, or you may notice a difference but not be able to put your finger on it.
In fact, it’s a change that I’m surprised hasn’t happened sooner.

If this sparked a rethink with your brand, imagine what we could achieve together.
