It would be easy to immediately put pen to paper without a second thought, designing something that looks great and developing complex functionality without considering why it may or may not facilitate the wider business purpose.
At Mobas, our digital projects extend far beyond just design and development, as we take the time to understand your business and the fundamental elements that make it successful. Our goal is to improve those levels of success, and it’s only through our tried and tested approach to digital development that we achieve this for each and every one of our clients.
For Mobas, a comprehensive website scoping phase is integral to a successful digital transformation for your business. It informs every phase that follows, from design to development, ensuring that every aspect of your site is built on strong strategic foundations that guarantee a greater chance of achieving your business goals.
Our scoping sessions allow the main project team here at Mobas to work with all your key internal stakeholders to really get under the skin of your company - your aspirations, audiences, core messaging and values.
These sessions vary in scope depending on the requirements for your new site, but we will always cover the following:
Understanding and analysing your current digital background
- Learning more about your key competitors
- Understanding your key audiences and their user stories
- Delving deeper into websites you like - their main features, their IA, key messaging, how well their offering is reflected
- Defining objectives for your new site
- Defining your top level information architecture
- Discussing your expectations for visual design
These sessions will be completely interactive - we always encourage our clients to challenge us and each other in order to ensure every avenue is explored and that we have as deep an understanding of you, your audiences and your objectives as possible, so it’s important to come armed with ideas!
Once the scoping phase is complete we will then collate all workshop outputs, turning them into a research and strategy document that will include the following for you to review and approve or tweak as required:
- Audiences / goals / KPIs
- Sitemap creation (information architecture)
- Template and block definition
- Visual moodboard
- Refined developer estimate
It’s this document that will ensure the success of the design phase as it provides all the tools our UX/UI designer requires to design a website that addresses all of your business needs.
At Mobas, we understand that your website is your shop window so it’s vital that the design accurately reflects and complements your offering, your values and your personality.
It’s also important that it facilitates the newly defined and purposefully structured information architecture to ensure conversions, as prospects make their way through the marketing or sales funnel your site supports.
With all this in mind, and closely following the research and strategy document, now approved by the client, our designer will take these tools to create a design that’s individually tailored for all of your business needs.
Our design process involves three key stages, all of which take into account the research and strategy that has been collated up until this point:
- Low fidelity wireframes and content planning
- High fidelity wireframes
- Full designs
Our low fidelity wireframes map out the shell of your website, showing you where content blocks will sit on each template, rather than addressing any design aspects or interaction that may eventually be included in your website.
Our high fidelity wireframes then bridge the gap between these initial wireframes and the full design of each web template, adding an interactive element to provide a better idea of UX and UI for clients, and including more precise spacing and layout.
It’s these high fidelity wireframes that are then transformed into full digital designs which showcase each template in full, including interactive states.
Mobas hosts these designs in InVision, a great platform for sharing comments between our internal team here at Mobas and your stakeholders.
After each of these stages, we will share the outputs with you, taking feedback and applying amends where requested.
While each of our clients has a dedicated Account Manager, with the complex nature of digital projects, we think it’s important that each one is further supported by a Digital Project Manager - someone who works closely with the development team on a day to day basis and can ensure the smooth delivery of your website.
Your Project Manager will work with you from day one, pulling together a project plan and ensuring that each member of your dedicated project team is aware of their individual responsibilities within that plan, and holding them accountable for delivery.
They will keep you updated, checking in regularly to discuss the latest progress and address any unavoidable roadblocks, always coming to you with a solutions focused approach to avoid any disruptions to the project plan.
With all web builds, communication is key if we’re to hit deadlines and ensure the highest quality of work, and it’s the role of your Project Manager to act as the intermediary between you and the rest of the Mobas project team to pull everything together so that we continue to deliver just that.
The role of a project manager:
- Create a project plan and schedule
- Schedule and conduct regular client catch ups (frequency dependent on project scope)
- Act as intermediary between client and Mobas project team
- Address and facilitate the resolution of any roadblocks
- Manage the project scope
- Facilitate testing / QA process
- Reporting on project status internally and externally
