Three simple ways to maximise your online presence

In partnership with our client Geodesys, Adam Tuckwell, Head of PR and Social Media Agency Mobas, was invited to speak at the 2018 LegalEx conference in London. Working together we’ve seen first-hand the value of legal professionals engaging with social media and we were keen to share our expertise with others.

The legal sector, perhaps more than any other, places a high emphasis on offline networking, but this year has seen a significant rise in lawyers capitalising on online social networks to build connections and share expertise.

A recent survey of lawyers found that almost three-quarters use social networking tools for professional purposes. Among that group of social media users, the most popular network by far is LinkedIn (95% of respondents) but many identified that they were unsure how to make the most out of their social media activity.

Whether you’re a social media expert or a digital novice, here are three simple steps you can take to make the most of your online presence.

Create a professional brand

A strong professional brand shows you are an active participant in your industry. It can lead to more enquiries from prospects and make people more receptive to your posts. Start by reviewing your profiles, photos, personal descriptions and contact details and making sure these reflect well on your company. This isn’t just important for professional networking, people looking for people in particular industries are likely to search for them online, so it is important your profile lives up to their expectations.

Focus so you make effective use of your time

A planned proactive approach to your social media activity will enable you to find and connect with prospects more effectively.

More than 76% of users feel ready to have a social media conversation and identifying prospects on LinkedIn that meet your established criteria – such as role, function, or industry..

Set yourself a goal of connecting with more people, follow industry publications and join LinkedIn groups to allow you to keep up to date with news and trends. Breaking news is often discovered first on social media so it can be a great way to keep up to date with news and announcements that will impact the way you work.

Build trusted relationships

Build trust with peers and connections by sharing your expertise and helping provide relevant information to others. Have genuine conversations, share insights and ensure you use social media as a way to stay in touch with people you meet. Having effective social media relationships will help you to maximise any face to face time you have with these people.
